(16:04:15) JayEldon04: and i've taken skin off my hands
(16:04:24) JayEldon04: i'm not sure if this juice is worth this
(16:04:56) ignition16: wow
(16:05:01) ignition16: what kind of juice is it
(16:05:04) JayEldon04: Cranberry
(16:05:08) ignition16: forget it
(16:06:21) JayEldon04: i'm going to get a large knife... just a second
(16:06:36) ignition16: lol
(16:07:12) ignition16: i'm gonna go
(16:07:21) ignition16: good luck with the juice
(16:08:02) JayEldon04: good gosh , i thew my shoulder out
(16:08:16) ignition16: lol
(16:08:26) ignition16: go get some orange juice instead
(16:08:30) JayEldon04: haha
(16:08:32) JayEldon04: do'nt have any
(16:08:35) JayEldon04: ha! there, i got it open

servers and networks!

wow it's been a while eh? any way, first things first. here 's what inspired me to make a post today...

(11:14:29) xjavamaster: it's funny how well a network works when there are no users
(11:15:05) xjavamaster: which proves the theory that all network problems are caused by users

and here's what i'm thinking...

i like configuring servers. i could (and probably will) do this all day.

Apache

So, I needed to do some alterations on an Apache install today. It involved changing the listening IP addresses for a virtual host. Well all was fine and dandy until I restarted the server only to find that I could no longer surf to the pages hosted by the server.

In sheer utter panic, I start to fall apart (this is 100+ domains, mind you) and start planning how best to pack up my desk. Then I remember that I had been surfing through a SSH Proxy for some testing reasons and had closed the shell I was using.

[tangent]
[code]
ssh [user]@[host] -D [port]
[/code]
Then tell firefox that you have a proxy set up on your localhost at port [port].
[/tangent]

I changed the proxy settings in my browser, tried again, and had this amazing rush of relief. Gosh, that made me feel a heck of a lot better.

Any way, now I'm on the roof of a parking garage looking over a bright yellow 2005 Ford Mustang (pretty car as long as it has the extras). Today might look up from here :-).

String IP Addresses?

(16:42:06) holtrophos: well at that point i suppose we may as well not even use regular 4 byte IP's if the entire network is virtual :)
(16:43:20) holtrophos: ping /america/mi/gr/calvin/jev25
(16:49:21) JayEldon04: ping /universe/milkyway/solarsystem/earth/northamerica
/america/michigan/gr/calvin/jev25/carbon

(16:49:34) JayEldon04: haha, that would make for some sweet diagrams
(16:49:46) JayEldon04: but some really crazy kernel memory problems
(16:50:06) holtrophos: haha even better, i'm starting to like IP's more...
(16:50:45) holtrophos: dynamic memory allocation in the kernel would get yuck fast
(16:50:57) JayEldon04: can you imagine the routing needed for calvin alone?
(16:51:08) JayEldon04: let alone when we put men on pluto and need to start using solarsystem???
(16:51:32) JayEldon04: good gosh, then we invent tachyon drives and have to communicate with people orbiting alpha centuri
(16:51:48) JayEldon04: string based ip's are a bad idea me thinks

Green Day Sucks

Greenday is a bunch of snot-nosed anarchists. More to come on that later.

Friday, July 08, 2005

it's friday... don't want to be here any more...

(14:20:03) JayEldon04: i want to go home...
(14:20:08) JayEldon04: i'm leaving in an hour
(14:20:09) holtrophos: ME TOO
(14:20:11) JayEldon04: haha
(14:20:11) JayEldon04: wow
(14:20:14) holtrophos: 1.5 HRS
(14:20:15) JayEldon04: unibasic again?
(14:20:18) holtrophos: YES...

note: if you don't get this, don't feel the need to laugh. if you do get this, you may laugh all you like, i know i did.

Quantum Physics

I tried to do a little explaining of quantum physics and Shrodinger's Cat to one of my co-workers. After going into the little I knew about quantum entanglement, quantum computing, and what not...

...after listening for about 4 minutes to my shpeal, he finishes the conversation with these words...

"i didn't like the part about the cat."
